Mushroom &

Berry Forage

mushroom picker.jpeg

You’ll be hard-pressed to find a more Ukrainian sight than babusyas, or grandmas, foraging for mushrooms and berries. Within the Carpathians there are over 200 species of mushroom, to include porcini, aspen, and chanterelles. The European equivalent of blueberries (bilberries) grow wild throughout the countryside. The woods around the villages of Zelene and Dzembronya have the best conditions for finding mushrooms. Of course, except for the most experienced foragers, we recommend channeling your inner babusya by taking photos and then purchasing locally harvested berries and mushrooms from the produce market in Yaremche or ordering one of the many tasty mushroom dishes at a local restaurant.
